Lexania Marin has 17 years of experience as a professional coffee taster. As a young women, she was trained by a USAID initiative in Nicaragua to test coffee in micro labs. In 2004 she was selected to be on the ‘Star Cuppers’ team for the region of Central America. From there she went on to join an international panel of judges for the acclaimed “Cup of Excellence”, often referred to as the ‘Oscars of the coffee world´. Developed by the Gourmet Coffee Project of the International Coffee Organization (ICO) and organized by the Alliance for Coffee Excellence, this annual event held in several countries identifies the highest quality coffees produced.
Lexania has continued to work with other coffee tasters and roasters in 7 countries, including the United States. She is licensed as a Q Grader, which is the most advanced certification by the Coffee Quality Institute for experienced cuppers to grade and score coffees utilizing standards developed by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA).
When she is not traveling and tasting coffee, Lexania has dedicated time to using her expertise at home in Nicaragua as an instructor at several national institutes training young people to become professional coffee tasters.
